Quick Maintenance Kit Replacement for a Xerox VersaLink C500 or C600 Series Printer

A printer maintenance kit (pictured below) contains replacement parts for your machine. Every printer model has its own replacement interval for parts determined by the number of pages printed.

Typically, the maintenance kit for a Xerox VersaLink C500 or C600 series printer is a long-life item, which means it rarely needs to be replaced. This maintenance kit usually yields about 100,000 pages before ever requiring a replacement.

However, if your maintenance kit is damaged and requires a replacement, this how-to guide will help.

In this how-to guide, we’ll be looking at how to replace a maintenance kit for the following compatible Xerox printer models:

•    VersaLink C500
•    VersaLink C505
•    VersaLink 600
•    VersaLink C605

Let’s uncomplicate printer maintenance by walking through the transfer unit replacement step-by-step.
This process involves multiple steps, including the assembly and disassembly of several key moving parts, like the transfer belt and roller.

We will be walking through the replacement process on a Xerox VersaLink C505 model printer, but the process is the same for all compatible Xerox printer models.

Part One: Replace the Second Bias Transfer Roll (BTR)

You want to start by removing the old BTR. After you’ve removed the old roll, you’ll be able to replace it with the new one from your printer maintenance kit.

1. Open the cover at the rear of your printer.

2. Locate the BTR.

Bias Transfer Roll.

3. There should be four little orange tabs at each corner of the roll. Put your fingers on each tab, squeeze them together, and pull straight up to remove the BTR.

4. To put a new maintenance kit in, it’s the same exact process: the orange tabs are offset so the tabs that go towards the machine are closer together. This means that the slots are not straight up-and-down but tilt slightly backwards at an angle, so make sure you insert the new BTR at the same angle.

5. Once you have guided the BTR into the slot, the next step is to push it down. Use your thumbs to push the BTR in until you hear a click.

6. Give the BTR a little wiggle to make sure its securely inserted.

7. When you’re done, you’ll close the back cover and move on to the transfer belt.

Part Two: Replacing the Transfer Belt

The next part of this installation is replacing the transfer belt. This process involves opening several covers on your printer.

1. The first thing you need to do is open the right side and back covers on your printer.

2. After opening both covers, you will need to remove the waste toner container.

3. Push the orange latch on the right side of the printer face down and let the waster toner container gently fall open. Then, set it aside.

 Example.

4. Unlatch all four of the drum assemblies (pictured below) by pulling down on the orange latch handle and unlatching the drum assemblies.

5. This is your transfer belt assembly. There are two orange locks located at the ends of the transfer belt assembly. Turn the locks towards the inside of the machine. This will unlock the drum assembly so you can remove the transfer belt.

6. Pull the transfer belt straight out using the orange handle.

7. You will notice the transfer belt catch when you try to remove it from the machine. There is one last latch to disengage.

8. Grab the orange latch on top, and lift the old transfer belt out of the printer.

9. To put the new transfer belt back in, you will hold it by the orange handle on the top and set it inside its slot. Let go of the orange handle to engage the top latch.

10. Slide the transfer belt assembly in until it clicks.

11. Re-lock the latches on the sides of the transfer belt by turning them outwards. The latches should be straight up-and-down when locked.

12. Push each of the drum assemblies back into place with your thumb, then re-latch each one by pulling up on the orange latch handle.

13. Now, you will put your waste toner container back. Guide it in using the arrows. Roll it up and in. Then push the waste toner container until it clicks. Close your printer’s covers.

Roll it in

Part Three: Replace the Separator Roll

1. The separator roll is part of the maintenance kit for these printer models, and it is located in the tray of your printer.

Open tray.
2. Remove the tray from the machine by pulling it out.

3. This (pictured below) is your separator roll assembly. On the right side is a white latch. Pull the latch to the side.

Example.

4. Roll the orange assembly up and lift the separator roll out on the left side and slide the entire roll out of its slot.

5. To insert the new separator roll, you will insert the right dowel into the tray.

6.  Stand the roll straight up and then roll the left dowel into its slot. Slide the entire roll to the left and roll it down until it clicks.

7. Put the tray back in its slot.

And that’s it!

Your maintenance kit should be properly installed so you can get back to work without any printer maintenance hassles.
